First edition. A broad-ranging selection of photographs taken in the course of Thesiger's travels, introduced by prefaces by Thesiger and his biographer Alexander Maitland. The photographs depict, amongst others, the peoples of Northern and Eastern Africa, Arabia, and Central Asia, including Kurdistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Although not marked as such, this copy is from the library of Michael Shaw of Curtis Brown, who succeeded Graham Watson as Thesiger's agent in circa 1980, and represented him through the 1980s and 1990s, and is thanked in the acknowledgements on p. .
