In 1935 Teichman was sent on a diplomatic mission to Chinese Turkistan by the British Embassy in China. The subsequent journey to Urumchi, the capital of the region, was made by truck from Peking across the Gobi Desert. His diplomatic business concluded, Teichman then proceeded across the Pamirs by yak and pony, and completed his mission by flying across the Himalayas to India. The present work offers his account of this incredible journey.
