They hold a place of their own in English sporting literature of the 19th century, and some of the characters created therein, it is safe to predict, will live for ever ... Much of the credit for the popularity and success of some of these books is due to the clever draftsmanship and inimitable humour of John Leech and Phiz [Hablot K. Browne] who furnished the plates."
