STANFORD [map publishers]. Genova. London, Edward Stanford [c. 1900].

Linen-backed lithographic map in two colours, dissected into 18 segments (470 x 590 mm), folding back into the original blue cloth covers, label, titled Riviera pasted to front board; advertisement to the inside; apart from minor spotting a well-preserved map.
The map covers the coastline with inland from Fréjus to Levanto, west of Genoa, including a good stretch of the Alpes Maritimes. - This 'Stanford' map is actually an Italian production and has an Italian military blind-stamp. The name Stanford is not in the lithographic stone, merely on pasted down label. When Riviera tourism started around 1900, maps of this coastline were suddenly in demand and Stanfords printed a label for the front cover in order to sell it to tourists.
