SOVIET SPACE PROGRAMME - Cigarette dispenser in the shape of three books with clockwork musical automaton. Soviet Union, late 1960s.
Laqured pressed sheet metal, brass and balck plastic, one chip at the rear of base, otherwise very good and clean, functioning musical mechanism.
The three volumes are titled First Sputnik of the World … October 1957, First Man in Space … April, 1966 (i.e. Gagarin) and First Lunar Sputnik … April 1966. The music which is repeated many times after opening the dispenser is a famous cosmonaut hymn. Other versions of this pbject have marbled, and not gilt edges, and the spines of the volumes are simpler in colour sheme.
