SMEATON, G. Doings In London. London, Orlando Hodgson, .

A collection of steamy, salacious stories about London's darker districts, supposedly based on actual cases and reported statistics. Naturally it was exceedingly popular as a result, and this is the tenth edition. Smeeton holds absolutely nothing holy, and the tales are gory and bemusing enough to make it worth a read even to our inured moden sensibilities, such as the lady who repeatedly faked her own hanging in every district across London.
