First edition of a Grand Tour travelogue written by a Frenchman who lived in the United States and travelled extensively. This tour had been undertaken in 1817 and 1818 and Simond is a keen observation of the the heated revolutionary atmosphere of Italy after Napoleon's defeat and the early attempts at a risorgimento. Simond attended social events, frequented various opera houses and immersed himself in the political, artistic and social debates of the time.
