SHEPARD, E.H. (illustrator). "Given to an Indian Woman" - original watercolour, pencil and ink. Circa 1965.

A charming original watercolour painting with pencil, and ink, on board, sheet size 14 x 18.9cm, handsomely double-mounted with 7 hand-ruled borders in white, grey, blues and red, and another fashioned with onlaid gilded paper, mounted size 26.5 x 34.5cm, being an image of a kindly American Indian woman talking to a young white boy who is dressed in scouting attire, with the background of an Indian camp featuring teepees, signed with initials in ink, EHS, to lower left, with printer's marks to edges and the title in pencil to lower margin, "p. 88 Given to an Indian Woman" and "Red Indian Story" to verso alongside "E.H. Shepard, Woodmancote, Lodsworth, Sussex", with previous owner's marks to the reverse.
An, as yet, untraced, but apparently published, watercolour by one of the most celebrated children's book illustrators of the early, and mid-, twentieth century.
