SETH, Vikram A Suitable Boy London, Sixth Chamber Press, 1993.

Large thick 8vo., red publisher's cloth gilt to spine; preserved in the original unclipped dust jacket (£20.00 net), with a black and white photograph of the author to the lower panel; pp. [xix], 4-1349; [xi]; text block marginally, and evenly, toned, with some light yellow spots to first few prelims; otherwise a very handsome example, the jacket lightly faded to the backstrip with a few minor creases.
First edition, first state, with the olive-green endpapers. Signed by the author to the title.
A pioneering work, one of the longest novels ever produced in a single volume, and an epic love story set in post-independence, post-partition India. A sequel, (A Suitable Girl), was due for publication in 2017, but as of year end 2023 this is still unpublished. In an article that appeared in the Khaleej Times on 4 November 2019, Seth claimed that this was because he had not yet devised an ending.
