SERJEANT, Robert Bertram. The Saiyids of Hadramawt. An Inaugural Lecture Delivered on 5 June 1956. London, [OUP for] SOAS, 1957.
8vo. Original stiff card wrappers, printed in red; pp. 29, apart from light spotting to wrappers, a very good copy.
First edition, probably one of only 50 copies printed. The Arabist Serjeant had been on several research trips to the Hadhramaut in the the 1940s. This is a study of one of the oldest and most influntial Arabain noble families, part of the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe to which the prophet Muhammad belonged. The Hashemites, of course are close relatives.
