Original emerald green boards decorated and lettered in white, in pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [v], 6-96; with double-page pictorial title-page and 39 further full-page plates in sooty and dramatic black and white, including 3 double-page spreads; a fine, uninscribed copy protected by a very good price-clipped dustwrapper with rubbing and a little nicking to spine ends and corners and a couple of unobtrusive closed edge tears (longest 32mm), repaired to the reverse.
First UK edition; published in the US the previous year. City boy Tinto goes to stay with his aunt in the country. She is an artist and teases him with pictures which open his eyes to the beauties of the natural world and its parallels with urban spaces.
Seredy was a Hungarian-born American who won the Newbery Medal in 1938 for The White Stag.
