12mo, rebound by the Edinburgh Academy in full calf, with the motto in latin embossed in gilt to both boards; gilt borders; spine fully gilt in compartments and contrasting black morocco label gilt; marbled endpapers and edges; pp. [vii], ii-ix, [ii], 2-396, [ii]; with a frontispiece engraving by Lizars after J. Skene; a very good copy, with some offset edges to the endpapers; binding rubbed and bumped with some fraying to the spine expertly repaired; upper edge a little darkened. Provenance: Prize book plate from the Edinburgh Academy, dated 1846, to the front paste-down.
Second edition (first was 1830). The work is sometimes accompanied by a suite of plates by Cruikshank, but these were issued separately in 1830 (reissued 1834), and are here not present.
