RANKIN, Niall Antarctic Isle. Wild Life in South Georgia. London, Collins, 1951.
8vo. Publisher's original cloth, spine lettered in gilt, two penguins blocked in gilt on upper cover, map endpapers, in dust-wrapper designed by Stephen Ross (not price-clipped); pp. 383; frontispiece and numerous illustrations from photographs, 3 sketch maps, map endpapers; light marginal wear to wrapper, light offsetting from endpapers, otherwise a very good, attracive copy.
First edition. A highly illustrated record of the 1946 expedition to South Georgia. By sailing in his 42 foot motor yacht, one of the smallest vessels to travel the waters of the South Polar region, Rankin was able to visit and photograph little-known bays and fiords. Among the wildlife studied and photographed are penguins, elephant seals and the great wandering albatross.
