Original mid-blue cloth with gilt vignette to upper cover, blind-stamped vignette to lower board, pictorial grey endpapers in silhouette, top edges blue, others uncut; pp. [v], 6-170; pictorial title-page, 16 coloured plates by Rackham mounted-at-large and protected by tissue-guards, alongside chapter-headings, tailpieces, and other vignettes in black and white; a bright, clean copy with mild external dust-soiling, bruising to spine ends, and a little insignificant dent to spine centre; internally generally very fresh with all plates and guards fine, light foxing to half-title, and a long, neat, school prize inscription to front blank, dated 1924.
First edition, later issue, with the blue top edge and grey pictorial endpapers. This volume contains one of Rackham's most beautiful pictures, entitled "Earl Mar's Daughter". First issues of this edition have a gilded top edge and white endpapers (Riall, p. 137).
