He advocates a vision of economics as a logical science, attacking ideas of God and providence as reasonable explanations for the status quo and taking on economic shibboleths of competition, monopoly and taxation as irrational obstacles to liberty.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe translator, American anarchist Benjamin R. Tucker (1854-1939), was one of Proudhon's most important followers who translated a number of his works into English. This translation was originally printed in his journal \u003ci\u003eLiberty\u003c\/i\u003e, which was instrumental in forming the distinctive American individualist anarchist philosophy.
