PORTWIN, E. T. The Limping Wolf. London, Featherstone Press, [1946].

12mo. Original red cloth, titled in black to upper cover and spine; pp. iv, 40; a very good copy with slightly rubbed corners, notably the paper stock changes throughout resulting in variations in toning.
First edition. A very scarce book of supernatural fiction, in which the hysterical Nigel Ingram (in the belief that he might be responsible) calls in an old friend to investigate rumours of a werewolf rampaging about the quiet village after dark. Expect murder, witchcraft and people faking paralysis - all the elements that make up a good werewolf story.
This book was produced in accordance with the war rationing of paper that continued in Britain until 1949, which in this case meant the publisher was forced to use several different kinds of paper stock that have toned at different rates, resulting in a rather curious patchwork aesthetic.
