First edition in English, rare, of the edificatory novel for the youth describing life in the Jura, when a young boy and his grandfather are snowed in, with details of the 'hard and laborious life of the inhabitants' (p. 1). Jean Jacques Porchat (1800-1884) was a Swiss writer, born in Geneva, who translated the complete works of Goethe into French.
