8vo. Original greu cloth with damaged dust-wrapper; pp. xv, 302, large folding map at rear, sketch maps, plates after photographs, apart from light rubbing and toning to cloth, and replaced front fly-leaf, a very clean and fresh copy internally, printed on high quality off-white paper stock.
Uncommon first edition. Joan Meredith Chichele Plowden (1890–1975) was the first women to travel through the Sinai, on camelback, accompanied by six Arabs. Starting in Suez in a southerly direction 'their month's supply of food proved barely sufficient to carry them through the Wilderness, and it was only with the help of a chance-met Beduin guide that the party eventually succeeded, after an enthrallng journey, in reaching Aqaba' (blurb on front flap).
