Very uncommon first edition, presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author on initial blank. A classmate of Winston Churchill at Harrow, Pickthall took up travelling in the East and became a strong advocate for the Ottoman Empire, even during the First World War. In 1917 he officially announced his conversion to Islam and translated the Quran, published under the title The Meaning of the Glorious Koran.
