8vo., rebound in quarter navy morocco over marbled boards; upper edge gilt; blue ribbon marker; pp. [vii], vi-xxi, [iii], iii-xxxvi, [iii], 2-359; [iii]; including a folding plan of the parish, here found linen-backed and at the end of the text; frontis showing a distant view of Hampstead, and an additional 15 plates (family table bound at p. 117); a very nice copy, the odd spot and patch of toning being the only defect; slight creasing to final map. Provenance: Ex Libris of Jacob P. R. Lyell to the front paste-down, with note card in pencil stating 'Best edition with additions corrections' to the ffep. Also included is a letter from a bookseller to Mr Lyell, loosely inserted.
New edition, with additions and corrections. Included is a list of subscribers, appendix, index, as well as additions and corrections. The plates are provided by various contributors including G. Shepherd and Charles Heath, with chapters covering the various artefects and fossils found, a list of rare plants, the Etymology of the name, and much more.
"It is an extremely fine, clean and tall copy" writes the dealer, and "re-bound in a very exquisite manner", before going on to comment on the peculiarity of binding the addenda at the front of the volume, and certain other bibliographical points of note.
