First edition. Arthur Douglass's ostrich farm, 15 miles outside Grahamstown, was much celebrated in its day both as a tourist site and as an exporter of ostrich feathers to Britain for use in ladies' fashions. In this fascinating book he provides a full overview of ostrich farming, with sections on ostrich biology, diseases and breeding as well as on the economics of the feather trade and future prospects for the industry. With the change in fashion these tried and tested farming methods could easily be adapted to food production.
