First edition. A comprehensive and practical gardening manual, taking the reader through the year in a number of different types of garden. Walter Nicol (1769 - 1811) was Scottish gardener who became renowned for his work for his work in Perthshire and Mid-Lothian and for writing a number of well-regarded works on gardening. He was described by the English gardening author J.C.Loudon as 'a Scotch horticultural architect and author of merit'.
