NERUDA, Pablo [Nathaniel TARN, Trans.] The Heights of Macchu Picchu London: Jonathan Cape, 1966.

8vo., original brown publisher's boards, lettered in gilt to spine; in the black and white dust jacket (price clipped); pp. [vi], 7-47, [i]; a lovely, near-fine copy, the jacket lightly rubbed at spine tips and corners.
First edition thus, with the translation by Nathaniel Tarn and inscribed by the translator to David Wevill. Wevill was a Canadian poet and fellow translator who also translated some of Neruda's works: "To David/ for the beautiful poem he gave me & for the China roads".
Often cited as Neruda's 'greatest contribution to poetry', inspired by his journey to the ancient ruins in Peru.
