MURRAY, Sir Archibald Despatches (June 1916-June 1917). With specially prepared Maps and Portraits. London & Toronto, J.M. Dent & Sons, 1920.

Two volumes (one being a box with four folding colour-printed and linen-backed maps), royal 8vo. Original cloth (text volume with the rarely preserved dust-wrappers); pp. xi, 229, [3], title printed in red and black, six plates printed in sepia and three maps; wrapper with a little margianl fraying, a little offsetting from paste-downs; otherwise very good; contemporary bookplate after Bewick of William and Elizabeth Anderson inside front cover.
First edition of the complete set, rarely seen in this condition. Sir Archibald Murray was Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from January 1916 to June 1917, and as such instrumental in directing the campaign against the Ottoman Empire on the Arabian Peninsula, in the Levant and west of Egypt in the Libyan desert. It was Murray who authorized T.E. Lawrence joining the Arab Revolt and provided him with monetary and military (not too much) support for the attack on Aqaba.
