MITFORD, Nancy Highland Fling London: Thornton Butterworth, 1931.

Crown 8vo., original publishers' 'heather' coloured cloth, embossed in blind with title and author's name in yellow to upper board and spine; pp. [vi], 7-287, [i]; corners compressed, spine a little faded; a little shaky in the binding, but holding firm, a little spotting to prelims and some light overall staining, some pages more affected than others; a very good copy, nonethless, rare in its first state.
First edition of the author's first book, in which a set of completely incompatible and hilariously eccentric characters collide in a Scottish castle, bright young things play pranks on their stodgy elders, and the frothy plot climaxes in ghost sightings and a dramatic fire. It was inspired, in part, by Mitford's youthful infatuation with a Scottish aristocrat.
