4to.,original yellow cloth hand-bound in Japanese style, decorative die-cut paper cover, blue painted endpapers, housed in folding blue cloth clamshell box (without silver matador's sword bookmark). Title-page and colophon colour illuminated by hand. Illustrated with drawings throughout by John Fulton. A fine copy.
First edition. Artist's edition, signed by Michener and Fulton, with handcoloured title-page and colophon, stated limited edition of 100 numbered copies; however, John Fulton died prior to the completion of this edition. Discussion with him prior to his death indicated that approximately only 65 to 70 copies were issued.
This copy inscribed by photographer Bob Vavra to Fleur Cowles and Tom Meyer, "For Fleur and Tom, I knew that John and Jim - your amigos - would want you to have this book which is signed by both of them.
