Green cloth-backed brown boards, lettered in white; pp. [iv], 192, , portrait-frontispiece in sepia with tissue guard, maps and diagrams; apart from very light spotting here and there, a very good copy of a rare privately printed work; contemporary Belfast ownership inscription to front fly-leaf.
First edition. The first letters from August 1914 are dated in Dunree Fort, County Donegal in August before M'ervel was sent to France to join the Connaught Rangers.
