Original blue cloth, images of Greek motifs blocked in colours to upper cover and partly reprised on spine, lettered in gilt to upper cover and spine, top edge gilt; pp. xii, 234, ; 75 colour plates, captioned tissue guards, 1 folding map; minimal wear to extremities with very light wear, front cover with a smalll horizontal bubble, apart from light offsetting from endpapers, as usual, a very good copy.
First edition with a print run of 3000 copies; getting uncommon. The 1924 edition had only 32 plates. The classical grounds revisited by the Scottish Reverend and illustrated by the English landscape painter in oil and watercolour, with A. & C. Black's superior colour-printing technique fully employed.
