LLOYD, William Whitelock. Sketches of Indian Life. London, Chapman and Hall, 1890.

Small folio. Original cloth-backed printed boards, patterned endpapers, wire-stitched as issued; 18 chromolithographic plates including title, printed by Emrik & Ringer in the Netherlands, partly hightened with eggwhite; wear around edges of boards and a little spotted, oxidization to wire-stitching, as ususal, inner hinges re-infoced; plates clean.
First edition, racist to the extreme. Shocking that the white ruling class did not feel embarrassed in the least. A 'humorous' depicton of master and servant relations in Anglo-India. The book tells the story of a young British military couple from the arrival in Mumbay to a relaxing picnic up the Sind Valley.
