Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt; front board lettered in gilt; spine and front board with orange ornamentation; in the original illustrated dust-wrapper (not price-clipped); pp. viii, [2], 302; two plates, one being the frontispiece; endpapers with illustrated map, desigend by Illian; minor flaws to head of spine of dust-wrapper, as well as large piece of front-flap torn away; tissue guard of frontispiece with a horizontal tear; contemporary ownership inscription to endpapers, else a good copy.
First edition, eighth printing. Trader Horn (born Alfred Aloysius Smith; 1861–1931) was an ivory trader in central Africa, and met Cecil Rhodes. The editor was a South African novellist; John Galsworthy provided the preface.
