The author’s debut novel; Call For the Dead, was originally published in 1961 and it introduces what would later become his recurring character George Smiley as well as the concept of ‘the Circus’, a fictional representation of MI6. His only book located beyond the espionage communicaty- Murder of Quality, Le Carré’s second novel from 1962, would continue Smiley’s missions.
