LAWRENCE, T.E. T.E. Lawrence Society Newsletter No. 12 August 1988. Centenary Issue [ --Newsletter No. 13 November 1988]. [S.l.]: T.E. Lawrence Society, 1988.
8vo (210 x 148mm), 2 issues. Original stapled wrappers (no. 12) and comb-bound paper wrappers (no. 13); no. 12: pp. 30; no. 13: pp. 18; illustrations in the text; a few light marks on lower wrapper of no 12, otherwise very good, clean copies.
Issue 12 was published mid-way through the Lawrence centenary year of 1988 and gives details of a forthcoming symposium at the National Portrait Gallery (which was the venue for a major exhibition), a report on a visit to the Bovington Tank Museum, an account by Valerie Thompson and Harold Orlans of the T.E. Lawrence symposium at Pepperdine University, California under the auspices of Edwards H. Metcalfe, and other events and publications relating to the centenary. Issue 13, which appeared at the end of the year, also carries reports of events connected to the centenary celebrations, including the 'Centenary Cycle Ride' in Dorset, a gathering at Lawrence's grave in Moreton, and visits to Max Gate (Thomas Hardy's home) and the T.E. Lawrence centenary exhibition at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Together these two issues, which were edited by Ingrid Keith, provide an interesting record of the Society's participation in the activities which commemorated the hundredth anniversary of Lawrence's birth.
