LANG, Andrew (author). H.J. FORD (illustrator). The Pink Fairy Book. London, Longmans, Green And Co. 1897.
8vo.; publisher's pink pictorial cloth elaborately blocked in gilt to spine and upper cover, all edges gilt, matt black endpapers; pp. viii + [ii] + 360; with pictorial title, frontispiece, and a host of fine black-and-white plates and illustrations throughout after engravings by H.J. Ford; a handsome copy of this scarce title with the usual considerable fading to the spine but bright, clean boards, internally very good, fresh, and uninscribed, with very neat endpapers and hinges, some foxing to prelims and beneath the gilded fore-edge but otherwise remarkably clean with only a little occasional marking.
First edition of one of the hardest of Lang's famous coloured fairy books to find in collectable condition due to the fugitive quality of the cloth dye; copies are almost always faded to the spine. This is the fifth volume of twelve and forms a collection of forty-one fairy tales of Japanese, Scandinavian and Sicilian origin.
