JERROLD, William Blanchard. How to see the British Museum. In Four Visits. London, Bradbury and Evans, 1852.
12mo, Original slate cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, gilt-stamped view of the building on front cover, ruled in blind, apart from replaced front endpapers, a very good copy of a great rarity, contemporary ownership inscripton on lower paste-down, ownership inscription on title-page obliterated.
First edition. COPAC locates a single copy, in the British Library (formerly in the British Museum). Jerrold was a writer and journalist and must have been some expert on exhibitions, as he was appointed the Crystal Palace commissioner to Sweden in 1853 and was sent to the World's Fair in Paris in 1855. In the chapter on the Assyrian room he describes Layard's latest unearthed artifacts.
