HONG KONG - A Collection of Four Tinted Photogravure Views of Hong Kong. Hong Kong, [circa 1920s].
4 bifolia (image on one page only); 24cm x 17.5cm (images postcard size) on bamboo paper; two-tone photogravure on one leaf of each folded sheet, with printed captions in blue; paper-stock in good condition showing photographs clearly; one sheet has a pencil inscription; an incredibly scarce set of photographs, illustrating early photographic printing in Hong Kong
Photographs depict the Prince Building, The Hong Kong Shanghai Bank, the Business Quarter, and the Old Watch Tower on the Peak. Probably prototypes or printing proofs for postcards, as the two-tone colour photogravure is similar to examples of Hong Kong postcards from the early 20th century.
