First edition. This is one of the rarer titles by A. & C. Black, who profited from Carl Hentschel's colour type process. He invented and manufactured other process blocks, and also edited and wrote various publications on process work, on which he was a recognised authority. He was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and the Royal Society of Arts, and the president of the Photo-Engravers’ Association. In Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat he figures as Harris. Gordon Cochrane Home (1879-1969 was a London-born landscape artist, writer and illustrator.
