HOLTON, Isaac F. New Granada: Twenty Months in the Andes. New York, Harper, 1857.
8vo. Original publisher's brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt, decorated in blind; pp. 605, two colour-printed maps (one double-page), text illustrations; minimal wear to extremities, a little spotted in places only; a very good copy.
First edition. The author travelled widely through Columbia and Panama from 1852 to 1854. The outcome is one of the better travel books on the region. Although Holton was a professor of botany and he inteded to collect geographical and botanical data he focussed more on the nature of the country, peoples, customs, and the economy.
