First Edition. Ostensibly the second half of his autobiography [following A Sort Of Life], Ways of Escape is more a history of Greene's novels. For many of them, he explains the real life events that inspired them, what he intended to convey and whether or not he thought he had succeeded. In addition, he tells small tales of his travels in a suitably depressing fashion, interspersed with thinly veiled insinuations about how meaningless he finds his existence.
