Contemporary full calf, blind stamped panels with triple gilt fillets, sometime rebacked with original spine laid on, gilt raised bands and black morocco gilt lettering piece to spine, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled; pp. xx + 76, 5 plates and numerous text engravings by Bewick; very good. Provenance: front pastedown with bookplate of F. Menteith Ogilvie, ornithologist.
First Bulmer edition. The woodcuts were drawn by Robert Johnson and John Bewick and engraved mostly by Thomas Bewick. "A magnificent result of the efforts of the wood-engraver, type-founded, papermaker, and printer" (Hugo).
