GARNETT, Eve (author and illustrator). The Family From One End Street. London; Frederick Muller Ltd. 1937.

8vo. Original pinkish-red cloth, lettered in black to spine, green pictorial map endpapers depicting Otwell-On-The-Ouse at front and back; pp. [x] + 212; with line illustrations throughout by Garnett; externally near fine however with some dusting and light marking to edges of book block, internally very fresh, clean and crisp with the unavoidable vertical strip of offset-toning to free endpapers, with a tiny brown spot (3mm) to margin of frontispiece, offset to title but otherwise unmarked, and uninscribed, protected by a worn, but largely complete example of the rare pictorial, unclipped dustwrapper (5s.) with overall dust-soiling and slight spotting, wear to flap folds with expert archival tissue-tape repair to the reverse, fading to spine with substantial loss to ends to a depth of 6cm at head and circa 1.5cm to tail; genuinely rare in dustwrapper and scarce without in this condition.
First edition. A modern children's classic telling the day-to-day life of a very large, happy, family, the Ruggles, in the small Sussex town of Otwell, in the South of England. Father is a dustman and mother a washerwoman, but poverty does nothing to dent their spirit of fun and adventure.
