History Book Club issue in the later blue binding and marked thus on the spine. 'Gardiner wrote this detailed and rich recollection for the benefit of his children. The pioneer intended to publish his story in book form by subscription, but for unknown reasons, it never went to press until Morgan resurrected the manuscript [...] In this work, editor Dale Morgan has produced a monumental edition of an important and eloquent reminiscence. The volume is invaluable for Morgan's bibliographic essay on reminiscent accounts of the Gold Rush' (Kurutz).
