FRASER BENN, Edith. An Overland Trek from India. By Side-Saddle, Camel, and Rail; the Record of a Journey from Baluchistan to Europe. London: Longmans, Green and Co. 1909.

8vo. Original publisher's illustrated cloth; pp. xv, 343, plates after photographs, large fold-out map to throw clear; spine faded, light rubbing to cloth, offsetting from endpapers, and a little spotted internally; a good copy of a very uncommon book.

First edition. The traveller and author was born 1872, in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Her husband, Robert Arthur Edward Benn, worked for the Afghan Boundary Commission in the mid 1890s, employed under Foreign Office as Military Adviser, to H.H. Khan of Kelat, Baluchistan and became Political Agent in Chagai. This book contains a detailed account of life in Baluchistan, and her journey back to England via Persia, the Caspian Sea, including Baku, across the Caucasus to Batum, and then along the Turkish shore of the Black Sea towards Constantinople and home through Europe. Most of the excellent illustrations are after photographs taken by her husband.
