FORSTER, E. M. Alexandria: A History and a Guide. Alexandria, Whitehead Morris Limited, 1922.

8vo. Original boards, lettered in black on spine and upper board; pp. [6], x, 227, two folding plans, text illustrations, folding map in three colours in rear pocket; spine a little darkened and rubbed, light marking to boards, a little offsetting from endpapers, otherwise a very good copy.
First edition. In 1915 Forster went to Alexandria to work for the Red Cross. His guide primarily recalls the still-medieval city of Alexandria up through the nineteenth century, rather than that of the twentieth century. Indeed, Forster virtually ceased his historical account at the year 1882, when the British naval fleet bombarded the city in response to the perceived aggression of Arabi's troops. A majority of the edition was reportedly destroyed in a warehouse fire. This is one of the copies mentioned by Kirkpatrick in which the plan facing page 144 has not been misplaced to face page 44.
