FOAD, Ali Toulba. Ceylon. The Land of Eternal Charm. With Foreword by L.E. Blaze. London, Hutchinson & Co. 1926.

8vo. Original cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xxxi, 352, 91 plates afterphotographs, 4 in colour; cloth just a little marked, toning to endpapers; a very attractive copy.
First edition, signed presentation copy with long inscription on front fly leaf to Philippe Gelat Bey, dated Cairo, 1927. This charming book on Sri Lanka was authored by the English Redactor to the Cabinet of H.M. The King of Egypt. Chapters include Shopping in Colombo, Queens Hotel, and The Grand Oriental Hotel. He recounts his two voyages to Ceylon in 1921 and 1924. He went to Ceylon in the summer of 1921 to enjoy a long due summer holiday, and soaked up the atmosphere in the countryside and the buzzling cities. Fouad dedicated this book in print to H.E Dr. Hassan Nashat Pasha, acting chief of the cabinet of the King of Egypt. The amicable manuscript dedication is to Director of the European Affairs of King Fuad's Administration. - This particular copy is almost more of an Egyptian affair than a Sri Lanka book. - Presentation copies of this title are very uncommon.
