First published in 1919, this is a critically annotated bilingual crestomacy of classic Chinese poetry. William John Bainbrigge Fletcher (1879-1933) was the British consul at Haikou in Hainan Province, and wrote altogether two books on Chinese poetry, all of which are very rare. One of the early Western publications trying to understand the formalism of Chinese aesthetics, allusions and rhetorical figures in poetry.
