First edition. Fleming's account of Sir Francis Younghusband's invasion of Tibet in 1903 (which reached Lhasa), based on Younghusband's private papers, the archives of the India Office, the Foreign Office, and the War Office, and accounts of surviving members of the expeditionary force. This copy was previously in the library of Mary Anna Marten, OBE, a trustee of the British Museum and the Royal Collections, Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset, and founder of the Ancient Persia Fund, established in memory of orientalist Vladimir Lukonin, of the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg.
