Tenth edition of Simson's English edition of Euclid, for many years the standard text. Simson (1687 - 1768) became professor of mathematics at Glasgow University in 1711, a post he held for 50 years. His reputation was based on his understanding of ancient geometry. 'No man seems to have done more towards the restoration of Euclid's genuine works than Dr Simson of Glasgow' (Bruggermann 197-200). The three folding plates illustrate the 'Elements of Plain and Spherical Trigonometry', which are included for the first time.
