ETHERTON, Lieut.-Colonel Percy T. Last Strongholds. London, Jarrolds, 1934.

8vo. Publisher's cloth stamped in blind to upper boards and lettered in gilt to spine with original dustwrapper; pp. [iv], 297, highly illustrated with plates after photographs; wear and repairs to extremities of dustwrapper, minimal offsetting from endpapers, ownership inscription to front fly-leaf, else a good, bright copy.
First edition. Etherton lived and worked in Nepal, Kathmandu, Tibet and adjoining areas for many years and the present work provides details of his time there. The descriptions of the physical environment and scenery, as well as the wildlife which survives and flourishes there, are illustrated by impressive black and white photographic plates. This volume also contains Etherton's observations of the traditions, religions and social customs of the peoples to be encountered in each region. He further offers an account of his involvement with the Houston-Fellowes Everest Expedition of 1933, which achieved the first ever flight over the mountain.
