Large 8vo.; publisher's mid-blue cloth decoratively blocked in green, umber, and gilt to spine and upper cover to a design by Angus Albert Turbayne, with his scarab monogram, lettered gilt, top edges gilt, others untrimmed; pp. [vi], vii-xi + [i] + 246 + [8], publisher's illustrated catalogue; with a total of 75 coloured plates with captioned tissue-guards; an attractive copy with light external dusting and rubbing and a couple of tiny darker spots to upper cover, bruising to spine ends, and very small wear to forecorner tips, with foxing to blank endpapers and heavy spotting to uncut fore-edge of book block, but internally clean and fresh.
Second edition of this classic A. & C. Black Twenty Shillings Series title, issued a year after the first edition. The Irish Egyptologist's and painter's book is based on his life with Bedouin tribes. Loosely laid in at the front is a contemporary 11-page pamphlet, Syllabus of a Course of Twelve Lectures on Ancient Egypt by A.G.K. Hayter, M.A., F.S.A., printed at the University Press. Inman 19.
