Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt, image of the author and his servant on an elephant on front cover in gilt; pp. xi, 324, 16, publisher's catalogue, photogravure frontispiece and plates after photographs, 2 large colour-printed folding maps; cloth a little marked, apart from light offsetting from endpapers a very good copy.
First edition, second impression, the issue with maps. 'An inspector general of forests in India, the author recounts his early service in Oudh, with numerous hunts after tigers, panthers, sambur, and spotted deer. Transferred to the North West Provinces in 1880, he had more tigers and had experiences with rogue elephants. He also provides an excellent chapter on the habits of tigers with numerous shooting experiences' (see Czech p. 68 for the first issue without maps).
